Native Traits Standard license terms for Native Traits allows the use of commercially available licensed traits for research, breeding and development of new varieties. Once a standard license has been granted, a licensee can directly access the licensed technology by incorporating the relevant commercial Syngenta variety into their breeding program. Standard license terms on the patent: Depending on the trait, a fixed royalty fee or a fee per unit of seed will apply for companies.
When applicable, access to materials, know-how and a trademark license can be part of the agreement. Free access for not-for-profit organizations: Non-for-profit entities can access the traits for research purposes at no cost.
Members of the International Licensing Platform can obtain licenses on Native Trait patents from each other under standard licensing conditions. Through this TraitAbility website, Syngenta gives full transparency on its patented Native Traits in Vegetables to the entire plant breeding industry.
At the same time, where appropriate, Syngenta offers its licensees bilateral additional value in the form of detailed know-how or access to materials that will facilitate faster adoption of the Native Traits in the breeding programs. We hope that TraitAbility combined with the ILP will further enhance collaboration, allowing the Vegetable industry to deliver products capable of meeting future demands for higher quality.
TraitAbility is different from ILP in several ways. First of all TraitAbility is reaching out to all our potential collaborators (academic and commercial) and not only ILP members. Secondly, TraitAbility provides more information and access to Syngenta materials and know-how which will ensure efficient use and implementation of the offered IP.
